Welcome to the Senate Committee on Agriculture

JURISDICTION: Bills relating to agriculture

As of February 28, 2023, the Governor terminated the state's COVID-19 State of Emergency. Procedures put in place to accommodate the pandemic restrictions have been reverted back to pre-pandemic practices. Teleconference testimony during committee hearings will no longer be available.

The Senate continues to welcome the public and provides access to both in-person and written participation for public comment. If you are unable to attend a hearing in person, written comments or testimony can be provided directly to the committees by emailing the committee or utilizing the Advocacy Portal.

We encourage the public to submit written testimony before the hearing through the position letter portal. Please note that any written testimony submitted to the committee is considered public comment and may be read into the record or reprinted.

POSITION LETTERS

Support and Opposition Letters for Upcoming Hearings

  • Position letters are due by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday of the week prior to the hearing in order to be listed on the committee analysis.
  • Letters must be on letterhead with a signature and title of an official of the organization or designated authorized representative.
  • Our committee will accept letters addressed to the Author or previous committees of referral, in addition to our Chair or the Committee specifically. HOWEVER, they must be submitted to our committee directly.
  • Coalition letters must have logos, signatures, and titles for all organizations.
  • Letters will only be listed in the analysis as support or oppose as we do not accommodate subsections. "Support if Amended" and "Letters of Concern" will be treated as no position and thus not reflected. "Oppose Unless Amended" will not be listed as opposition and thus not reflected.
  • Organizations will only be listed on the analysis as a "Sponsor" of the bill if a letter is submitted to the committee explicitly stating that they are a sponsor.
  • Submit letters only once unless bill is amended “substantially” after original letter sent, causing uncertainty as to your organization’s present position.
  • Please submit position letters by clicking on the “Submit Position Letter” icon below or by emailing it to the committee at SAGRI.Committee@senate.ca.gov. Letter may also be dropped off or mailed to the committee address. Please call if you have any questions.
